Band Banquet

Dear Students and Parents,

We just wanted to remind you all that we will be holding our Band Banquet for marching band students and their parents this Tuesday, November 15th at 6:00 pm in the commons/cafeteria area of Orem High School. We appreciate all of you have offered to donate items for the banquet as well as all the donations we've received throughout the year. Our Band Boosters are the BEST and you students are pretty good too....just kidding you are AMAZING!! So please put this date on your calendars and plan to attend.

For the students who have instruments to check in bring them that same day Tuesday the 15 at 4:15 in the band room. Please have them cleaned and the brass polished when you check in. Please make sure to be there or make other arrangements with Mr. Summers.

Parents, thanks again for all your support this season and all your hard students!

Saturday PG High School UPDATE

Here is an update of the events for Saturday.

The competition will be at Pleasant Grove High School this year, the address is 700 E Battlecreek Drive in Pleasant Grove.

Call time is at 1:00 - 2:00 to rehearse on the field

2:00 I need people there to help with loading the trailer and moving truck

3:10 unload

3:30 uniforms

3:55 warmup

5:00 perform

5:30 uniforms off

*There will be a snack provided for the kids, but please have them eat before they come, and send money or more snacks for them if you think they will be hungry later.

*Make sure they wear black socks, and have a sweatshirt since the weather is now getting cooler

*We hope to have their band tshirts to hand out on Saturday.

If you would like to watch bands perform before Orem does you can go and watch, I don't know what time it starts but you can go around 2 or 3 and watch other bands. There is a cost, I believe $5 a person. Please come and support our great BAND!

Orem High Football Game Performance

The Marching Band performs at the Orem High Football game on Friday Night!

The kids will need to be there at 6:20 p.m. to help with pep band and then they will perform around 8 p.m. They will be putting uniforms on aroung 7:30 p.m.

The other kids that are not in marching band but are in the pep band will help with pit this night.

Come support if you can.

Family Night in the A.M.

Hello All,

According to the calendar we have a Family Night planned on this upcoming Saturday 9/17. Because of the BYU football game we have scheduled this to happen in the morning. It will start at 10:30 a.m. at Orem High School on the football field. It will go till about 12:30. We will also have 5 other bands performing their first performance of the season on that morning. This event is FREE!!!! so invite whomever you would like. We will have some simple concessions, (all proceeds will go to the band) and t-shirts to order for those parents that would like a t-shirt, to signify who you are cheering for. If you are unable to make this event, but would like to order a shirt contact me at my email danette.gardner@gmail.com and I will give you details.

We will need some help, in order to pull this off this Saturday:

We need 4 volunteers to help with concessions, time: 10 a.m. to 11, and another 4 from 11 till the end, or until we run out of items to buy,

4 volunteers to help with uniforms, time: TBA I need to find out from Summers when he wants them in uniform, I am guessing about 10 a.m. for 1/2 hour,

5 volunteers to help with clean up, time: afterwards for about 1/2 hour

This is a fun event, but it takes a lot of people to carry it through. Please, if you are able, sign up and help us out. If not this event, then choose another competition to help, we are always looking for people to help.

Fundraisers - Yard Sale & Boutique and March-a-thon

*Our first fundraiser for this year is our Yard sale & boutique. It will be at Mt. View high school July 9th from 7:00 am - 1:00 pm. We changed the time so that we won't have to sit in the heat for as long and also because serious yard sale people start early and we don't want to miss any sales. I will be at the school Friday night from 7-9 if you would like to set up the night before...which is recommended. I have people staying overnight to watch the goods. Remember you are in charge of transporting your stuff, displaying it on whatever you wish - tables, blankets, etc. and bringing your own money to make change for the things you sell and also you need to take everything you don't sell when you leave. Everyone is in charge of their own sales. You can sell whatever you like besides yard sale items, such as baked goods, drinks, or craft things you make. I have advertised it (or will be as soon as I send this) on KSL and will take flyers to hang in gocery stores and other public areas with bulletin boards. If you would like to take flyers around your neighborhood and want a copy of the flyer you received at school last week so you can make copies, let me know and I'll e-mail you the master with the time changes

*Our second fund raiser will be our March a Thon. I'll be handing out the pledge sheets next week with a sheet explaining more about it. But a brief synopsis is that you will need to talk to family, friends, & neighbors asking them if they will pledge an amount of money for each mile marched during band camp. There will be students wearing pedometers to keep track each day and at the end of the week we will total it all up. Your goal is to get as many pledges as possible so that you can earn all the money for your fees. Anything you earn extra can go toward next years fees if you'd like.

Jazz band kids....I know you have a parade that day that interferes so if you want to participate call me for more information on how that can happen.

TOTAL COST: $395.

(Trip with meals

NOT INCLUDED:

Cost of shoes and socks.

Each student will need black socks and a pair of Dinkles "Glide" marching shoes. These are $25 (includes shipping) and ordered through Mr. Summers.

Payment is DUE in full or can be made as follows:

June 6th - $25.00 [Dinkles Glide Marching Shoes]

June 6th - $100.00 [Uniform $50, Marching $50]

July 6th - $120 [Camp $70, Participation $50]

August 1st - $100 [Tour Payment #1]

September 5th - $75 [Tour Payment #2]

There are THREE payment methods:

1. Pay in person at the OHS Financial Office (Cash & Check accepted/make checks payable to Orem High School/include student name & ID number on memo line of the check)

Summer Office Hours: 7:15 am - 1:00 pm

In-School Office Hours: 7:15 am - 11:30 am or 12:15 pm - 2:30 pm.

2. Pay online at http://www.myschoolfees.com/ (cannot be paid online until the student account is set up). Also, there is a link to the site on the Fees/Fines page of the OHS website (http://www.oremhighschool.com/)

Cancellation Policy
If you commit now to Marching Band and decide later that you cannot fulfill that commitment, you may get some money refunded, depending on when you inform us.
-If you drop AND notify Mr. Summers before June 9th, all monies will be refunded.
-If you drop between June 11 and June 30 we can refund the first $100.
-If you drop after July 1, you will be charged the full $395.

Message from Mr. Summers

I wanted to thank all the parents that came last night. I feel that the BYU performance was a HUGE step in the right direction for the band and this year's show. I am grateful for the parents that helped out and those that came to cheer. It really helps the students as they perform.

I wanted to share with you how close the competition was last night. Timpview (1st place in 4A) was quite a bit above everyone else, but 2nd (Riverton), 3rd (Lone Peak), and 4th (Orem) were all very close. Orem was 3 points (out of 1000) behind Lone Peak, and only 5.8 points (out of 1000) behind Riverton.

Please congratulate your children for the hard work and great progress that they've achieved!

I would like to reiterate my priorities for your students. My primary goal is that my students are having a positive experience - working hard, learning, maintaining high expectations for themselves, and having fun doing that. My secondary goal is that students perform at a very high level. I'll be the first to admit that it's fun to win trophies, but I don't feel good about placing that goal above the other two. I also don't think the kids should feel badly or get discouraged because of their performance. On the contrary, I am proud of their great progress. As it is we're ranking among the best bands in the state and getting significantly better with every performance.

Reminder: there is no rehearsal Thurs (Oct 14th) as there is no school that day.

**call time will be at 1:00 on Saturday. Please be to the high school, do not forget marching shoes, black socks and hair pulled up. The kids will get a snack and something to eat at the competition, since they will be gone most all day. If you are wanting to come up to watch, the directions to Alta High School are:

From I-15

* take Exit 291

*Travel East on 12300 South

*Turn Left onto 1000 East

*Continue North on 1000 East

*Cross 11400 South

*Alta HS is on your right, East of 1000 South

Half time Cancelled due to rain

Because of the rain, Half time performance will be cancelled. Mr Summers would like the kids to still come and play in the pep band for the game, but that also depends on how much more rain is coming. So plan on the pep band, but no marching band performance for half time.

October 7th Orem High Football Game Performance

We are performing at Orem High School football game half time on Oct 7th, that is this Thursday. The football game starts at 7 p.m., half time will be around 7:50. Mr. Summers would like to have the kids there at 6 to warm up, he will hav them play for the 1st quarter of the football game as the pep band, they will get into uniform during the second quarter, perform, change out of uniform during the 3rd quarter and play in pep band the last quarter. We will need some help from parents to get kids in uniform and some help getting equipement on the field for the performance. If you are available, please let me know.

Clarification from Mr. Summers

I wanted to explain about October 9th.

This is a new marching competition held at Alta High School and run by Riverton High School. It is called Wasatch Invitational. This competition was a "maybe" when we handed out schedules, but has since been finalized. I opted to do this one instead of Davis mostly because it's on a Sat instead of a Tues night. We will also save about $350-400 in transportation costs.

So, to clarify... we are dropping Davis Cup from the schedule in favor of Wasatch Invitational.

I am sorry I wasn't able to get the info out to everyone sooner. I hope that everyone can accommodate the new schedule. I also apologize for creating the conflict with the BYU concessions. We will make that work, so everyone will have an opportunity to make that money up with BYU Basketball concessions.

This is "For Your Information"

We have the Family Night coming up this next Monday September 20th at 7:00 p.m. at the MVHS football field. We invite all families to come and see their students first performance.

There will be no practice on Monday, please drop off your child at MVHS at 5:00. Please feed them beforehand, they need to have black socks and the girls need their hair pulled back, don't forget your marching shoes. We will be having Payson High and Timpanogos High also performing for their families. This will only be about an hour long, and will be free.

Nebo Competition is Saturday Sept 25th, this is at Payson High School

the kids will meet at Orem High at 1:00, please give them some lunch before they come. They will be loading the trailer and buses at 2 and be to Payson High around 3

We perform at 5:00 and will be staying for the awards at 6:15 and arrive home around 7:30-8:00

**We will need parent help for this performance, if you will be available or will be going please let me know.

We have another conflict with a BYU game and a competition. On Oct 9th, the band will be performing at Alta High School at a Wasatch Invitational. I didn't know that we were doing that one or I would have let people know when we were doing sign ups. So if your student was signed up for that game, they will be unable to work, if you would like to still work please let me know. We will be trying to fill these spots with orchestra kids and other band kids that are not involved with marching band. Here is the list for Oct 9th

I know we just got done with Band Camp but this is our busy season right now so plan on lots of emails from me.

This is the list of people I have for the Sept 4th game.

I do not have the exact times we need to be there yet, but the game starts at 5, we usually open an hour before, so plan on at least 3 to 9 or 10, depending on how the game goes. I will shoot out an email as soon as I find out times for sure.

Please take note if you are on the list, you need to email me and confirm that you are planning on working, and I need to know if you have taken the online training, If not, you will need to take the time to take the training or you will not be allowed to work.

They said out of the 32 that worked the Stadium of Fire 28 took the training. If we would have had all 32 take the training we would have got a $50 bonus. Let's make sure everyone takes the training, so if they throw out another incentive we can get it.

You need to go to this website and take the training, it takes about 10 minutes then you email BYU at the end and let them know who you are and what group you are with and that you took the training. I would also like to know, so I can have record of it too. Hats: Sizing / BAND CAMP Reminder

Parents,

We will be sizing hats on Aug 2nd (Monday) while they are at practice. I need some volunteers to come and help me. We will also be having them put their pants on to check their hems to make sure they are more uniform. We will be doing this at 9:30 a.m., I will need a couple to come by 9 to help me set the hats up. If you are available to help with this will you please email me back.

Also a reminder. Band Camp is Aug 9-13, this is mandatory that the kids be there. On the last day of band camp they will have a small show for all the parents to see part of the show. This is worth the effort to come see. This should be around 6 p.m. I will email and let you know for sure what times.

PROVO PARADE

The Provo Parade is on Monday morning.

The kids need to be to the high school by 8:15 am, the band room will be open by 7 a.m. if there is anything they need to get out of it. Please make sure they have something to eat before they come and drink lots of water on Sat and Sun to keep yourself hydrated. We will have water before and after the parade as well.

We do need some help

Water - Provo Parade is a hot parade so we have people watch sections and give water to the kids throughout the parade.

Banner - I need 3-4 kids that are not in the band (little brothers and sisters) that would like to carry the banner in the parade

Parade Prep - I need a few moms to help make sure all the kids have their hair pinned up. We were going to try and get hats fitted, but it didn't get done (I forgot). Mr Summers would like all the girls hair pinned up and boys if it is long.

I need all those that are working concessions now or in the new future to watch this online training. It only takes about 10 mins and then at the end you email BYU and let them know your name and what group you are with. If you do not take the training you will not be allowed to work. If you are unable to send the email, shoot me an email that you took it and I will let them know. It is a good training and it is better than having you all get food handler permits to work with food, so please take the time to watch it.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you to all that participated in the yard sale and breakfast, I felt we had a good success.
We have a lot of things coming up in the next couple of weeks.

June 26th 9 am. we have the cleaning of our stand at BYU. I need some help, the more we bring the faster it will go. Please email me and let me know you are coming so I know how many to count on. You enter on the south side of the stadium where it says BYU Concessions, they will direct you from there. We are in stand N101.

July 3 is Stadium of Fire. I do not know the exact time we have to be there yet but as soon as I do I will shoot out an email, I am sending out the list of those that have signed up and you will need to confirm with me that you are still planning on it. We have one dilemma, BYU has set a rule that kids that work will need to be 16. This was also the rule last year, but they told us as long as the kid had a parent with them they could be under 16. I let them know that I have lots of students that have signed up that are under 16 to work and they told me that if the kid looks or acts younger than 16, they will question them, and if they can't prove that they are 16, they will not be allowed to work. I had a lot of kids last year that were under 16 and they were never questioned about their age. We are willing to take that chance again. So, if you are not willing to take that risk, then let me know and we will try to fill your spot, or if the student has a older sibling that would like to work, they could earn it for them. I just want you parents to be aware of this, so it won't be a major shock if they go to question your child.

2010 Band Fees

TRIP AND FOOD ON THE TRIP ARE INCLUDED!

NOT INCLUDED: Cost of shoes and socks.

Each student will need black socks and a pair of Dinkles "Glide" marching shoes. These are $23 and ordered through Mr. Summers.

Fund Raising:
We have arranged to do a fundraiser with BYU Concessions. When students participate, the money earned counts as money paid. (See Brook Gardner for more details.) ALL FEES AND CONCESSIONS FOR THIS YEAR MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE NOVEMBER TRIP! Concessions done after the trip will count for the next year.

Payment is DUE in full or can be made as follows:
June 7th - $100.00
June 14th - {Dinkles Marching Shoes fee only $23.00}
July 5th - $100.00
August 2nd - $100.00
September 6th - $35.00

There are THREE payment methods:
1. Pay in person at the OHS Financial Office (Cash & Check accepted/make checks payable to Orem High School/include student name & ID number on memo line of the check)

Summer Office Hours: 7:15 am - 1:00 pm

In-School Office Hours: 7:15 am - 11:30 am or 12:15 pm - 2:30 pm.

3. Pay in an after-hours drop-off envelope. Blank forms and envelopes can be picked up in teh Band Room by the door. Completed form and money are placed in an envelope and slipped under the door of the Accounting Office at Orem High Schoo. NO CASH PLEASE.

Cancellation Policy
If you commit now to Marching Band and decide later that you cannot fulfill that commitment, you may get some money refunded, depending on when you inform us.
-If you drop AND notify Mr. Summers before June 9th, all monies will be refunded.
-If you drop between June 10 and June 30 we can refund the first $100.
-If you drop after July 1, you will be charged the full $335.

Yard Sale/Breakfast Fundraising

We would like to hold a big Yard Sale on June 19th at Mountain View High School parking lot. Time: 7:00 am - 11:30 am (Breakfast from 7:30 am - 9:30 am along with the sale). Students will check out tickets to pre-sell, 100% of all ticket sales go toward their band fees. Tickets are $5/Adult (12 and older), $2.50 Child (1yr to 11yrs). Tickets sold at the door will go toward the entire band.

For the yardsale, each student that would like to participate would be in charge of getting their own stuff to the Mountain View Parking lot by a certain time, they are in charge of their own money for their yard sale items and then they would be in charge of hauling the left over items home.

Band Boosters will be in charge of setting up date and times and advertising for the yard sale.If you have some spring cleaning to do, save it for the yard sale. The students could make enough to pay their band fees, ifthey have great stuff to sell.

BYU Concessions Fundraising

We have a great opportunity to operate a concession stand for BYU at football and other special events. This fundraiser just takes time, no cost. We have a stand that will take 30 people to operate it. All the food is provided by BYU, we just need to sell it. 12% of the total sales will be given to our group. Each student, or parent, that works will be credited $30 (per person) towards their account and cut down their band fees.

The dates are:
July 3rd (Stadium of Fire)
Sept 4th (Washington) Saturday @5:00pm
Sept 25th (Nevada) Saturday @TBA
Oct 9th (SDSU) Saturday @4:00 pm
Oct 23rd (Wyoming) Saturday @12:00 noon
***Anything after October 23rd game will be credited toward 2011 band fees or Winter Guard***
Nov 6th (UNLV) Saturday @12:00 noon
Nov 20th (New Mexico) Saturday @4:00 pm

Kids have to be 16 years old to work without a parent present, 14 and 15 with a parent.
No one under the age of 14 will be allowed to work.

What to wear:
Plain white shirt (no logos), black or blue pants (no capris, or shorts) dark blue levis that are not faded are ok, good shoes (closed toed and heeled shoes only). If you are not dressed in the proper uniform you will not be allowed to work. Visor and apron will be provided.

Dates and times will be emailed. You will get a reminder call the night before. Carpools set up if needed. We have to email BYU with the names of who will work at least a week in advance.

If you are willing to help and assist as a group leader for this, please let Brook or Danette Gardner know -We are always looking for help.

Kick-Off Meeting

Tonight was the opening kick-off meeting for parents and band members.

Sign-ups for fundraisers were available at the meeting. Contact Brook and Danette if you still wish to add your name to the lists of fundraising opportunities.

This year's show will be based on American Folk tunes: Cindy, Shenandoah, Gates of Zion, and Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing. Mr. Summers arranged the music himself this year.

Grading: Based on attendance and some tests. Performances are a HUGE part of the grade.

Attendance: DO NOT MISS Fall Performances or Band Camp. Plan now to be at every performance. Missing a student in a show adversely affects every other student. If a student is ill, please contact Mr. Summers so we know what's going on.

During the summer don't miss without pre-excusal. We understand that people need to go out of town, and this is planned for. However, please plan your trips to minimize missed rehearsals.

BLUE PACKET OF FORMS: Please pick up and return your signed forms to Mr. Summers as soon as possible. These include permission for the Band Trip as well as opportunities for boosters to help with band activities.

We will have a carpool, for the later group meeting at the Orem High School parking lot at 10:15 and they will be leaving no later than 10:30 to get down to the stadium by 11:00. If you drive on your own, you can park in the Marriott Center parking lot and then walk down to the stadium, you enter on the south side of the stadium there is a sign that says BYU Concessions on the side and that is where you enter. You must check in and then you go to stand N101 it is on the North West corner of the stadium.

Please wear your uniform which is a white shirt with no logo on it, you might want to wear something long sleeve if you can since it is a little colder now, but I don't think you will need to wear a coat. You will need to wear black or blue pants, you can wear dark blue levis, and shoes that are comfortable with closed toe and closed heels. If you have long hair please pull it up.

Come with a good attitude and ready to work and lets have fun.

Band Banquet

The Band Banquet is on Tuesday, November 17th at 6:00 p.m. in the student lounge area at Orem High School. All band students are invited {WEAR YOUR BOA MEDALS!} along with their parents, we are also inviting any soon upcoming band students to attend. We are excited about celebrating their great accomplishment.

Our expenses this year have exceeded our budget, because of repairs and needed equipment, so we are asking for some donations to help us with the banquet. We are going to do the same thing we did for band camp, I am going to tell you what I need and you can volunteer to bring whatever. We are having taco salad, I have already got volunteers for some things we are just looking for a little bit more.

You parents are awesome, I hate asking for more, but you all pull through for me. The band and Mr Summers couldn't do what they do without a great parent support.

American Fork Band Fund Raising

I have jest been woken up at 2:00 in the morning, and feel i must send out this email.
As many may or may not know, Danette and I have a very close relationship to American Fork marching band.
Danette's father Dan Adams is the one who spear headed both the Red rocks and the Regional functions, from the parking to the awards.
He is also one of the Big cogs in AF's wheels that turn their system and make it such a successful and well run and supported Group.
The AF band Has been Begged to bring their show to the national champion ship in indiana, THIS WEEKEND.
Last year it cost them around $300,000 dollars to make the trip.
I feel I was woken up to send out this email to let everyone know, so that if you feel so inspired to donate any money to their band to help them, we have a connection for you to do so.
They are trying to raise as much as they can to go back to present their incredible shoe for national finals for the Bands of America competition.
They have already had some incredible donations to help start them on their way, and many incredible things have happened in the last few days to make it a possibility, so I have felt inspired
to send out this email to ask for any last minute donations form kids to parents that feel they would like to support a band that has ben so supportive of our band all year.

WOW! What a great weekend! The kids performed better than they ever have all year. I was so proud!!! I have had a few emails wondering where and the times we perform.

The location is the same place for both nights The Hansen Stadium at Dixie College (sorry I don't have an exact address)

We perform at 7:15 on Friday night
We perform at 1:45 on Sat for prelims, if we make it into the finals we will perform later. They will inform us after prelims when that will be.

If you are planning on going to St George to support your student just an FYI, the BOA makes you pay to watch prelims and then they clear everyone out and make you pay again to watch finals. I think it is $14 for one and $28 to watch both.

We love to have all the support we can get. Wear our school colors and scream really loud.

The band is doing so well. I think there performance at MVHS was one of their best. I am getting more excited about our St George competitions.

We have the opportunity to work basketball games and do their concessions for BYU too. In signing up to do concessions at BYU we need to work 1 basketball game a month. I will do one a month until January and then maybe we can do more to earn some more $. I don't know that we can promise $32 to everyone that works for basketball games, since we don't know on an average how much we are going to make.

I have signed up to do a game on November 13th at 7:30 p.m. in a few weeks. I need to know who would be interested in working that game. I only need 12 people to man this stand.

I also would like to sign up for the game on December 19th at 7:00 p.m. There are more games in January and I would like to sign up for 2 or 3 games in January. January 16, 20, 30th. Send me an email signing up to work any of these games.

I have to weigh in on the "peddling hot dogs" statement. I do not think the original post was making fun of someone's fund rasing idea. I think he/she was expressing a great deal of frustration with the timing of the fund raiser.

I know OHSMB is not AFHSMB, however they are the standard that all other marching bands should try to achieve - and contrary to popular belief they do minimal fund raising. Only when they have an unscheduled performance, for example the Presidential Inaugural of 2005 - do they fund raise during the season (except the Timpanogas Band Competition at Mountain View - which they run and get money from). From what I know all of their fund raising takes place during the summer and their big one is a pancake breakfast during Steel Days - and that is about it.

I think the biggest difference between us and them (as far as money is concerned)is that they charge their kids a $700 participation fee. Do the math, $700 * 250 students = $175,000.00 - that is a nice yearly budget to have.

Don't take this wrong - I think we have some committed parents in OHSMB, but for the most part we aren't doing even close to what AF's parent are. They are not only willing to pay the higher band fee, the also have most of their kids in private lessons, and they have a small army of "band dads" that help build the sets and get stuff on and off the field (that is just one example).

I know it is the kids that perform, and the director that puts the music/show together (and our director is as good as anybody - including John Miller), but the ultimate success of any marching band is directly proportional to the parental support. Support that goes beyond just selling hot dogs a few times a year. It is about being completely behind the program.

Just so you know, the half of the parents "peddling hot dogs" were helping raise money so that their kids can go on tour this year, but I do believe that we need a bit more support from the rest of the parents. Ill also add that the drumline was behind timpview by 3 points. But, thank you for your comments. They really are gonna help the band become better.

The kids competed last Saturday and they looked better than I have ever seen them this early in the season! They took second in class 4A only losing out to TimpView - whose drumline totally rocks (see my previous posting).

And while I am on it I am going to get on my soap box a bit... What gives with these fundraisers during competitions?

This great band is out making it's mark on class 4A, which they have never been part of before this year, and half of the band parents were at BYU peddling hot dogs - what gives? We need to be filing the stands with parents wearing their gold marching band shirts. AF really outnumbered us in the stands Saturday.

Great Family Night Performance!

Wow - I have not seen the band look so good, sound so loud, and be so big in the 6 years I have followed/been associated with OHSMB! Summers and the kids are doing a great job!

Only one complaint (and don't take offense I know the kids try hard) but the drumline is once again weak - to put it mildly. OHSMB needs serious percussion students to man the drums (ie kids that are taking private percussion lessons and are percussionists - not part-time drummers/french horn players).

OHSMB will never compete with the big guns like AF, SkyView, Riverton, or Mountain Crest until they resolve their weak drumline. The rest of the band is top notch.

So to you all: great job!

I will try to keep parents informed on times kids need to be where.

Saturday, (September 26th) students need to be at Orem High School at 2:00 with black socks and their marching shoes. Please feed them something before they come. They will plan on leaving by 2:20, please do not be late. They perform around 5:00, please don't be late to watch them perform.

We still could use some help with hauling the trailer, helping kids with uniforms, helping the pit take their stuff on the field. Please email me if you are available.

I am going to make a guesstimated guess on time they will be home. Mr Summers will send those that want to go back, especially since it is the Homecoming Dance for Orem High, on the bus after they perform and put equipment away. They could be home by 6:30, if they want to stay until after awards it may be until 9.

Help Needed

Ok Parents we are looking for some help with a few things.

1. We need help with fitting hats for the kid's uniforms Monday, Sept 14, 1:45 in the band room. I need 6 men or women to help out with this.

2. Sept 21st is our Family Night at Orem High School. Mr Summers has lined up 3 other bands to perform as well: Orem, Timpanogos, West Lake, Payson. He is having some judges to critique the bands to help them make improvements before the Nebo competition on the 26th.

3. We are in need of at least 6 people to help with uniforms (just to make sure kids are fully dressed) and to help with pit equipment on the field.(taking the equipment off and on the trailers). We will have a small training on Thurs Sept 17th at 6 pm after band practice.

4. We also need 4 people to help that night with helping direct bands as to where they need to go.

5. We will also need assistance on Sept 26th with the same things, at least 6 people to help with the pit equipment and helping kids with uniforms. They perform at 4:30 on the 26th at Payson High School.

Just for a FYI: The Band will NOT be performing at the Homecoming Football Game on the 25th. We will be performing at a football game in October.

We have a little problem on Sept 26th, this is the Nebo competition in Payson, it is our Homecoming dance and we have a BYU football game to staff. They will be performing right around the time I need to have them at the game, so we are going to need to staff the concessions with parents and maybe orchestra kids. If you are still willing to work to have the $ go in your students account let me know, otherwise I will need to get the word out to the orchestra to get some help.

Hello All,

Every year the band designs a tshirt that has the theme of the year. The band students receive a shirt because it was included in the fees. We are sending order forms for those that would like to order a tshirt to wear and support the band. It is always fun to look up in the stands and see our school colors, and all our wonderful supporting families.

We hope to have sweatshirts this year for anyone that would like them that have a band logo on them. One you can wear year after year, on those cold competition nights. These won't be ready to order yet, but we have tshirts and warm up suits to order right now.

The 2009 t-shirt was designed by Kimberly Peterson (Drum Major).

Thanks again to all those who helped make the food for Band Camp a success! There were so many donations of food and time. Thank you for the food you donated, thank you for your time helping to prepare food and serve it, and thank you for your positive attitudes!

Thank you to the students for cleaning the cafeteria—that was so awesome to eat in air conditioning this year! The students did a wonderful job cleaning after every meal. The students were a pleasure to serve!

A special thanks to Angela Bates (and her children) for their tireless efforts to make the food happen every day. Mrs. Bates was not just a helper but a partner in making it all happen for the students!

Thank you also to Danette Gardner for helping every step of the way and Renae Beckstrand for helping make things run smoothly every day! The show sounds so good.

End of Band Camp/Family Night in September

This is an email to let parents know if they would like to see the results of a weeks worth of band has done for your kid. The kids will be doing a run through around 6:15 out on the back field and then they will end band camp at 6:30. If you miss it, you will be able to see it even more polished by our Family Night in September. Mark your calendar it is set for Sept 21st, more updates coming.

We are so appreciative of all the time and efforts that Mr Summers, and his staff, Lisa Pope and Angela Bates, and the Food Committee, have done for our students. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Time For Band Camp!

Hello all,
Band camp is next week! Are you ready for marching band season to really get started! (this is my favorite part)
We are looking for some help with our band camp food. We are needing to ask for people to help with a few donations. I have a list of a few items we are hoping people will sign up and help bring. If you are unable to purchase a little, we are also looking for volunteers to help cook and serve. We did this last year and it seemed to work, although we had a parent meeting just before band camp and that helped with the sign up process. We hope we can do this through email this year.

These are the items we need:
8 people to bring a watermelon on Friday for lunch
8 people to bring a salad (any kind) on Friday for dinner 8 people to bring 2 bags fo chips, this will need to be there on Monday and we will use throughout the week
8 people to bring 2 loaves of french bread, please make one garlic the other plain, this is for Monday dinner
4 people to bring one pan of brownies on Thurs for dinner
8 or more people to bring popsicles

Lunch will be from 12- 1 and dinner 4:15 - 5, we will need the food there a half an hour ahead of time. We will try to give a reminder call the night before.

This is the list of the people that had signed up to help on the Food Committee at our first parent meeting. If you would like to be added let us know.
